Thanks to Aputure for providing the new lights for Adam's workshop! The lights we used are as follows:

This response isn’t a reflection of your work. It speaks volumes about the character of the other person. That family member couldn’t make that object. They can’t appreciate it. They can’t graciously accept a gift or the effort. This is THEIR issue. Period. Don’t throw pearls before swine.

Really interesting to hear Joey's thought process when it comes to lighting setup, different factors for different cameras etc. Now I love watching Adam's videos, but listening to Joey I realise I'd also love to see some content, perhaps even in the members section, where the crew could add commentary to a video on what their processes were when it comes to editing, lighting, filming, music etc... Maybe not for every video, but for some of the bigger projects, special items or more difficult shoots....

This captures the essence of the double edge sword of being an artist/creator/performer. The way the act of creation is supplanted by the need of an audiences approval. It is a finely edged double sided blade. Many have been driven mad in the pursuit of accolades by others. Adam loosing physical property is not quite the same as your story except in the lack of appreciation for the works. But there it is none the less. Not everyone will appreciate any piece, catalogue or style of every creator. Crossing paths with some of the peeps who are not fans is inevitable... If you don't allow yourself to be surprised when it happens you will not fall into the "how could they" mindset that's so painful. Just don't be surprised. It nips it in the roots.

The vulnerability issue is definitely real. I totally agree. In my own case, I got a phone call from someone who I hadn't heard from in decades, and she and her husband had bought a painting I had done. They broke up. The painting got moved around a lot over the years, and she was tired of having to deal with it. In fact, during our phone call, she admitted that she had never liked the painting, but her husband had. The upshot was: she didn't want to just throw it away, so she wanted to give it back to me. I didn't want it back. But she brought it to me anyway. It was a weird experience for me. She was even suggesting that I refund maybe half of the original price they had paid for the piece. Weirder still. That didn't happen. So, I got the painting back (which I really didn't want). I'd gotten better with my art over the intervening years, so I was partly glad I could dispose of that older piece, but giving it back to me to do was a strange experience for me as a maker. Adam is right about the time that any piece you make reflects. It's a odd experience to realize that things you have made, and spent a lot of time on, is finite and fleeting. Not just the things you've made, but you as well. It can be a helpful lesson in the impermanence of everything.

Great review. Thorough. Enlightening. Firstly, any pair of glasses should fit properly on a face. This is difficult as most bridges are 19mm and many people require larger bridges, such as 22mm. Hard to find that size in even regular frames. Secondly, controlling the features requires touching the frames. This has to evolve into speach control ("Take a photo"; "Take a video"; etc.) Thirdly, if the batteryu exhausts itself and cannot be replaced, that's my $500 samoilians down the drain. Not what I'm looking for in a product such as this. Excellent review.

All I'm thinking is that there doesn't seem to be a way to open the door from the outside, which is kind of necessary to have. And before you go "Yeah but this is just a model, it doesn't have to be exactly correct." I'd like to point out that by that logic he might as well have just drawn it on a piece of cardboard and called it a day. But instead he went through all that trouble to machine everything to very exact tolerances.

Always a delight and an informative session with Joey-- I am surprised that there are not several motorized heads-- clusters along the north/south or east/west axis-- so that you could pour a lot of light on a particular table or work area. Even for some beauty shots of projects.

I make what I enjoy making. If I am making something for another person it is especially for them. The idea and thoughts and energy that goes into a handmade object is immense. I have to keep it separate. Making for me is almost unconscious; vs making specifically for a person. The family member that refused your gift was not kind. I have learned to ask if they want it and not be upset if they do not. The last thing I want to see is it in the trash. Just give it back.

Recently, my daughter bruised my heart when she threw out a ball I made a few years back, specifically to play catch at night. 😢 It was perfectly round, softball sized, and made of clear silicone with a small cavity in the center. I was able to fit a two colored LED thingy that turned on for 8 seconds once you tapped, shook, or bonked it. It wasn’t broken. It wasn’t dirty. Yet she threw it out 😢 It stopped smelling like vinegar when it cured, so it didn’t stink... but she threw it out. 😒I did have a few bags and boxes with projects of mine lying around, yet those were set aside for me as she cleaned… but why toss the ball? Her “reasoning” for this mayhem on my heart and innocent ball was that “it fell on her foot and it hurt, so I threw it away” ☹️🥺 Ultimately, she was supposed to make it up by making another one for Father’s Day… but I do not hold nor see a ball in sight. Sospirare 😑🫤Jenna clearly hates her 💩 dad.
